Since her election to the Lakewood City Council in 2005, Nickie Antonio has solidified her reputation as a responsible and collaborative leader. In fact, one of her greatest strengths lies in the diversity of her professional career and civic activities.
Nickie’s community activities are broad and eclectic, including service as the chair of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, chair of the Cuyahoga Democratic Women’s Caucus and participant in the Ohio Women’s Leadership Forum. On a professional level, Nickie has worked with a myriad of partners in her capacities as a former special education teacher, adjunct professor and non-profit administrator.
She is a founding member and past chair of the NorthCoast HIV/AIDS Coalition, past president of the Greater Cleveland Chapter of the National Organization for Women, and former board member of the Domestic Violence Center.
During her time on the Lakewood City Council, Nickie has served as a strong proponent of the arts as an economic catalyst. As a councilmember, she operates under the idea that civic engagement is key to building a strong and safe community.
On the city council, Nickie chairs the Health and Human Services Committee and acts as the council’s liaison to the Community Relations Advisory Commission. She also serves as a member of the Public Works Committee and the board of the Lakewood Hospital.
