Victory Fund Announces New Endorsements
(Washington, DC--June 19, 2007)—The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund today announced seven new endorsements, bringing the total number of its endorsed candidates this year to 34. The newly-endorsed group includes a New Jersey General Assembly Member who is running as openly gay for the first time, and two candidates in Colorado and Minnesota who would become the only openly gay members of their city councils. The endorsees are:
- Jeffrey Anderson--Duluth City Council, At-Large, MN
- Joe DeMedeiros--New Bedford City Council, MA
- Reed Gusciora--New Jersey General Assembly
- Sue Lovell--Houston City Council, TX
- Annise Parker--Houston City Controller, TX
- Eugene Pearson --Boulder City Council, CO
- Debra Silber--Judge, New York City Civil Court
Chuck Wolfe, president and CEO of the Victory Fund, said the group represents what voters look for in their elected representatives. “Honesty is the watchword of politics, and it’s what we expect of our public leaders. These candidates are being honest about a fundamental part of who they are, and that takes courage. We are proud to endorse them and we’ll work hard for their election,” Wolfe said.
The Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund is the only national organization dedicated to increasing the number of openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elected officials. It is the nation’s largest LGBT political action committee. Since 1991, the Victory Fund has helped to grow the number of openly LGBT elected officials from 49 to more than 373.
